MANHATTAN

Aptly named, Manhattan is a piece defined by its bold colors and distinct shapes. The piece is able to encapsulate the abundant energy that exists in such a compact island. The canvas painting on which the ceramic elements rest illustrate the streets and corners of a busy Manhattan while the red elements represent the blood and life of the city. Lim’s experience living on the island inspired her to make a piece dedicated to the diversity that exists there. Each ceramic piece differs in shape, design, and color, and represent not only the buildings but also the people of Manhattan (Island People). Despite their simple shapes, the structures are able to convey the heart and soul of a New Yorker.
